The tour begins at the Plaza Mayor which is the vibrant heart of the old town. A few steps away stands the imposing Cuenca Cathedral, an early Gothic jewel built at the end of the 12th century. From the Cathedral, we will head towards the Neighborhood of San Miguel, one of the oldest quarters of the city. Its narrow streets, houses hanging over the gorge of the river Huécar and its quiet atmosphere will transport you to another era. We will continue to walk towards the Church of San Nicolas, a small 13th century temple that has been renovated several times and stands out for its sobriety. We will continue the ascent until we reach the Florencio Cañas viewpoint, one of the most impressive panoramic points of Cuenca. From here, we will enjoy a privileged view of the gorge of the Huécar River, the Hanging Houses and the mountainous environment that surrounds the city of Cuenca. We will descend again towards the Episcopal Palace, located next to the Cathedral. This building houses the Diocesan Museum, which houses valuable works of sacred art, tapestries and gold and silverwork, and its Renaissance courtyard is an example of Cuenca’s stately architecture. Finally, you will pass by the mythical Hanging Houses, built in the 15th century and defying gravity over the abyss of the Huécar gorge. Thy currently host the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art. Cross the Puente de San Pablo, an iron and wood footbridge suspended over the river canyon, from where you get the best views of the whole complex. It is a breathtaking experience, both for the height and the beauty of the place. We will take you directly to the Teatro Auditorio José Luis Perales in Cuenca, Castilla-La Mancha.

Route B)

Plaza de la Merced – Torre de Mangana – Remains of the Synagogue – Mirador del Júcar – San Martí Skyscrapers

"Foto "Foto

Plaza de la Merced, a quieter but very significant area located two minutes’ walk from the Plaza Mayor of the city of Cuenca. Here you will find the old Convent of La Merced, which is now converted into a university building, and the Science Museum of Castilla-La Mancha. A few steps away is the Mangana Tower, one of the symbols of Cuenca. This 16th-century tower, which has been rebuilt several times, stands on the site of the old Moorish fortress. The square surrounding it, with its gardens and benches, is an ideal place to rest and enjoy the views. Nearby, just below the Mangana Tower, are the archaeological remains of the old Jewish Synagogue of Cuenca, integrated into the urban complex. They are a testimony to the coexistence of cultures that characterised Cuenca in the Middle Ages. From here, we will walk to the nearby Júcar Viewpoint, one of the best views of the river that gives its name to the province. From here you can see the Júcar gorge, the leafy valley that surrounds the city, and some of the bridges that connect the different levels of Cuenca. We will end the tour in the Barrio de San Martín, where the famous medieval ‘skyscrapers’ of Cuenca are located. Built on the edge of the cliff, they have only 3 or 4 floors at the entrance, but up to 10 or 11 at the back, adapting to the terrain. Their colorful façades overlooking the Huécar form one of the most striking postcards of the city. From there we will go to the Teatro Auditorio José Luis Perales in Cuenca, Castilla-La Mancha.
